This paper is not using your common knowledge about about american history, but according the book When I was a salve. https://books.google.com/books/about/When_I_was_a_Slave.html?id=7mL-GhqNYD8C
This is the link on google. You can read it. Below is the prompt: Write a short essay (two to three pages double spaced is sufficient), using one or two of the narratives in When I Was A Slave as evidence, about the social goals of ex-slaves during and after the Civil War. In class on Wednesday the 25th, we discussed some of freedpeoples’ social goals in general terms. As a group, they sought education, access to work, etc. (You can also look at the chapter on Reconstruction in the textbook to add to the list.) For this response paper, use one or two of the narratives to hone in on an individual ex-slave and make an argument about how he/she came to have his/her particular post-war social agenda and how he/she sought to achieve it. In essence, you want to answer the question: Why did this ex-slave have the particular social agenda he/she expressed and how did he or she pursue it once freed? In answering this question, I want you to pay particular attention to the role that gender, social status and forms of labor played in shaping both the agenda and how individual ex-slaves sought to achieve it.
5 days for 3 pages is not that much.
