Research report

Choose a research topic that is sociologically interesting and relevant. In terms of research methods you have two options. The first option involves an interview method and the other option involves an observational method.

Interview method: 1) Find an article that deals with the topic of your interest. Use the topic as a guide for the paper. 2) Select two interviewees and conduct an interview on the topic of your interest. Your interviewee should consent to an interview (and tape recording) 3) Prepare an interview outline. Identify five points that are of interest in studying in this topic and write two or three open-ended questions for each point. You may not use all of these questions, but this is a good exercise to think about different ways to ask questions. 4) Conduct interviews and collect qualitative data. Gather some background info about your respondents.
5) wrtie a report on your research topic based on the interview data. Compare and contrast the two different interviews, Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your study and explain how generalizable you believe your findings are. Avoid using real names
6) appendix. Include your interview questions and write your reflection on the interview experience. The following questions will help you reflect the interview experience: Why did you choose your interviewees? Where did you conduct the interview and how long did it take? Did you experience any difficulties and why? Are there any other important details that may have influenced the content of the interviews? What do you think about the quality of your data? what did you learn for the interview process?

Observational Method: 1)Find an article that deals with the topic and use that to guide the paper 2) Choose a setting that is most likely to include social interactions of different racial, ethnic, age, gender, occupation, and or class groups. Observe at least 30 minutes and repeat your observation at the same time at least one more time. 3) Observe the social interactions in the place of your choice. How do people of different groups interact with each other? How do factors such as, race, age, gender, and social class affect the ways people relate to each other? How do they use verbal and nonverbal languages to relate to each other? Do you detect any prejudice or discrimination in their interactions implicitly or explicitly? 4) Describe the physical environment if it is relevant. Neighborhood or walk around your work place or dorm. Describe layout of the place. Organized? Where are individuals of different groups situated. Are the social groups integrated or segregated? How do people use physical space to express their roles and social positions.
