Research a human interest topic, such as adult literacy, surviving cancer, or wife abuse. Create a thesis statement around this topic. Find a non-profit organization in your city connected to your topic. It can be an organization, such as one that provides literacy instruction, a group that provides support to cancer patients, or a shelter that provides refuge for battered women. Explain your assignment and request an interview with a staff member who is considered an expert in the field. Create 10 to 20 questions related to your thesis statement to ask the interviewee. To formulate strong questions, research the topic at the library or on the Internet. Summarize the interviewee’s responses into two to four cohesive paragraphs. The topics listed are only examples. Feel free to write and interview on a different topic. Submit all references you used to formulate your thesis statement, as well as the questions used in the interview.
