Welcome to “Fun Home”

After reading the chapter on the role and importance of the audience, and watching the Theatre Talk video on “Fun Home,” winner of the 2015 Tony Award for best Broadway musical, discuss how you think audiences identify with a play.  Use examples from the video when the collaborators for this musical talk about the importance of audience members identifying with the musical.  What do they mean?  Is it personal or family?  Is it important for you to identify with something – a character, a theme, a song, a group — when you attend theatre?  Is it part of why we “like” some plays and dislike others?  Lastly, what are your experiences as an audience member?  Who do you identify with?  Give examples from your own experience with being an audience member.
