Your goal will be to develop a brief scientific document/abstract educating your target population of adolescent/young adults around a drug or behavior of addiction. This information source must address an issue that either we have or have not discussed in class or in the text, and is prevalent in today’s society.
You will create a document that will provide the reader with some relevant information including, prevalence, background info, mechanism of action, effects of abuse, treatment options, resources for info. You should be presenting some recent (2010 or newer) evidence or research on some aspect of the addiction from at least 2 sources. For example, if your topic is smoking addiction you may want to search the online database (Pubmed) to identify 2-3 research trials that have looked at smoking cessation therapies and present/compare the results. Remember that regardless of whatever addiction you choose, the content must be based on valid, relevant, and referenced evidence. Make sure all of the facts and statistics you cite in your campaign can be verified and are from a reliable source. The goal of your resource is to educate your audience, convince them in the negative effects of the drug of addiction, and some sources where they can get help or further info.
The goal of your campaign is to:
• educate your audience
• help the reader understand how common it is
• how does this effect the body/brain?
• provide some current evidence/research on the addiction
• there must be a clear take home message
• provide the reader with some further links or information sources
Marks will be given:
• if your addiction is clearly stated and you have some background info
• if you have provided some related and recent evidence
• if statistics are provided and referenced
• if you have a “take home statement”
• if your document is clearly written and within the word limit
