Team Project Research Report (1,500 words per member) 25%This assignment involves undertaking research into the recruitment, selection and retention strategies, policies and objectives within a selected organisation and also, how they link to the organisational HR strategies, policies and objectives. The major focus of the paper should therefore be related to recruitment and selection (and optionally staff retention) in the chosen organisation. Teams will be formed during the semester. Teams could comprise either on-campus students, online students, or a combination of both. Students must be willing to work in a team comprising whatever configuration is required (as determined by the lecturer or unit convenor). Each team member is expected to contribute equally to the preparation of their teams report. Usually, each member of the team will receive whatever grade and mark is awarded for the report. However, provision is available for distributing the mark according to the level of each members contribution where applicable this must be finalised with the lecturer or unit convenor. Each team will need to select an organisation and undertake research into organisational practices on the topic noted above. Teams will need to select an organisation to which they can gain access. They are expected to approach the report as an investigative research project; some objective methodical research is expected, and personal and subjective observations are not to be relied upon solely. Validation and substantiation of claims should be made through supportive objective data collected through company reports, documents from the organisation etc. The data collection process should involve only information that is publicly available and not subject to privacy and/or confidentiality. The presentation of the findings of the study in the business report will include: A description of the process and research method used to gather the information, and its limitations Identification and explanation of the organisations HR strategies and activities, linking to the organisations recruitment and selection (objectives, policies and practices) as they relate to the theories and practices presented in the course that is, drawing links or identifying differences between theory and practice. Students must also evaluate the effectiveness of the recruitment and selection processes in relation to these links and differences between theory and practice. Recommendations should be made. Note: Evidence of wider reading and research into current HR journals is also required A template for the business report format will be provided in class and on Blackboard. If your team has difficulties, it is your teams responsibility to seek assistance from the lecturer. Report Assessment Criteria: Description of the process and research method used to gather the information, and its limitations Identification and explanation of the Recruitment and Selection activities of the organisation Application of theories/concepts dealt with in the topic or subject, includes drawing links or identifying differences between theory and practice Citation to a minimum of 5 academic journal articles per team member in addition to other sources (e.g., our textbook) as evidence of appropriate research for the report. Insufficient scholarly research may result in a fail grade for this report. Evaluation of effectiveness of the recruitment and selection processes including quality of recommendations Application of the business report format for the presentation of the report Ability to present an articulate, coherent and well-presented report. Clear, expression, style, and use of the Harvard system of referencing are expected. Inadequate or inaccurate referencing may result in a fail grade for this assessment item and/or the unit.
