2. Area of Interest Report
DIRECTIONS: Choose a topic of interest to you that relates your major or intended career to your host country (My major is INTERNATIONAL STUDIES; Host country is JAPAN). Use newspapers, reference books, the internet, people, the How to Prepare section of the Study Abroad Center web site, etc. to research your topic. The report should be approximately 4 pages, double-spaced, typewritten, proofread, in correct English.* Below are some sample topics:
For a political science major going to Mexico: Learn about a political event of current interest to the Mexican public and relate that event or compare and contrast it to other political events you have been studying (e.g. an upcoming election, a change of power from the left to the right, etc.)

For a biological science major going to Denmark: Learn about the difference between the Danish and the U.S. health care system.

For a sociology major going to Germany: Learn about the condition of ethnic minorities in Germany. Where do they come from? How are they treated by the German public? What kinds of social services are provided for them?

For an economics major going to Japan: Learn about recent global economic trends and how they have affected Japan. What are the consequences for the rest of Asia and the U.S.?

*NOTE: Academic dishonesty is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at the University of California, Irvine. Cheating, forgery, dishonest conduct, plagiarism (including copying text directly from the Internet), and collusion in dishonest activities erode the University’s educational, research, and social roles. In such cases, sanctions, as described in Section 105.00 of the Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students will be applied. The complete description of the UCI Academic Senate Policy on Academic Honesty can be found in both the UCI General Catalogue and Schedule of Classes.
