■Monti, F., Tonetti, L., & Bitti, E. (2014). Comparison of cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy in the treatment of anxiety among university students: an effectiveness study. British Journal of Guidance & Counseling, 42(3).
■Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy for the treatment of anxiety in a college population. One of the primary reasons provided by the authors for conducting the study was to help increase knowledge about effective treatments in college counseling centers and help to educate consumers of services.
■Key Elements: Study conducted at the University of Bologna, the Global Assessment Scale used to assess general functioning of the students during the initial phase of the study, the Symptom Questionnaire was used to assess the effectiveness of treatment modalities, 30 participants completed CBT and 24 participants completed psychodynamic therapy, participants were seen for one year for one 50 min session per week.
■Results: Mixed ANOVA (two by two design); of particular note, significant effect of the within-subjects factor (pre vs. post treatment SQ anxiety subscale) regardless of treatment type;
