The goal of this paper is to argue the significance of 3-4 themes(thesis/intro paragraph) in shaping Latin American countries and contributing to their instability in the 20th century. To argue for these themes it is suggested to use 8-10 events in the recent history of Cuba, Chile, Argentina, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia(does not have to include all these countries) that support these themes.
At this stage I have concluded one theme: USA intervention/cold war, and the events that support this theme are the Cuban revolution, the massacre in El Salvador, La Violencia in Colombia.
However I have not determined any more strong themes, or Latin American historical events that are supported by the listed sources or text materials.
I would like a paper written with a thesis that includes USA intervention/Cold War as a theme, and 2-3 more major themes that can be supported by specific evidence and events. These themes and their supporting evidence/events must focus on the later half of the 20th century. 8-10 pages is the length, 9 would be ideal.
Some possible supporting events to look into:
– Civil Wars in El Salvador and Guatemala, both were historically poor, with society sharply divided over class and race.
– Political violence/conflict in Chile and Argentina, as both were long established democracies.
