Reading Response Journal- The Ghost Ship that Didn’t Carry Us

This is a reading response journal about the essay- The Ghost Ship that Didn’t Carry Us by Cheryl Strayed. A reading response is somewhat like a journal entry, in that it is not a formal essay, however, you should make an effort to make your response have a somewhat academic but also conversational tome. MAKE YOUR OWN TITLE. In the first paragraph, include the title of the essay/story and the author. Use his or her complete name. After you have stated the author’s name, be sure to refer to the author by his/her last name in the rest of your response. In this first paragraph, give a brief summary of the essay/story, saying what you think is the author’s main point, or at least the most important point, and tell how the author has gone about explaining his or her point or message to the reader. The thesis or theme has to do with what you think the author is trying to say to you, the overall focus or point. Include a minimum of two direct quotes from the essay/story to support your ideas. The rest of the response should consist of your thoughts and feelings about the essay/story and the author’s ideas. You can do this by discussing your own experiences as a way of agreeing or disagreeing with the author, or you can base your ideas on other things you have read or know or wonder about. Try to find some way of connecting with the piece, whether experientially or academically. Try to make personal connection, bringing in your own experience, observations.
