Race inequality in U.S higher education
Write a 4-5 page paper addressing one of the educational problem(s) in the U.S. higher educational system. This paper must be typed, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. It is expected that the paper be checked for proper grammar and spelling errors.
First, examine the U.S. higher educational system, its advantages and disadvantages based on reading of Chapter 10 in Ballantine and Hammack 2012, and additional research on your own. The research question that you will address in the paper is: does the U.S. higher educational system offer equal opportunities to all individuals regardless of race, gender, and social class, e.g., in admissions and quality of education? In other words, does the U.S. higher educational system address the issues of excellence and equality effectively? Focus on only ONE area of inequality. Which sociological theory, (functional or conflict theory) best help you support your thesis?
Second, what type of educational policy would you recommend for the U. S. higher education? How would problems of excellence and equality be addressed by your policy?
For your research paper, you need to use at least 3 scholarly sources, which do not include textbooks, encyclopedia, popular magazines, or newspapers. The first place to start is the references in the back of your textbook. Please check with me regarding the sources used in your paper. Be careful with internet sources.
