Project Risk Monitoring and Controlling

Read the Saltwater Moving Inc. Case Study and answer the questions.

Saltwater Moving Inc. has been contracted to move a large two-story home from one location to another 12 blocks away. The home will be lifted off its foundation, mounted on moving equipment, and down a residential street to a main boulevard, six blocks of which will be required to close during the move. Saltwater Moving Inc. performs these types of moves as a primary function of their business and the PM spends a great deal of time preparing for a one-time project such as moving a large house.

In developing this project, the PM has identified many risks related to lifting the house onto moving equipment, scheduling a contractor, turning off electrical, phone, and cable utilities, and temporarily removing cables that extend across streets in order to accommodate the path for the house. Plans will be made to contract staff to manage traffic control as well as pedestrian bystanders for safety. Analysis of the structural integrity of the house and the capability of the moving equipment to successfully move the house to the new location has been performed, and its been determined that there is a 10% probability of catastrophic damage. When the house has been relocated to the new site, removing the house from the moving equipment and locating it on the new foundation will require precision, accuracy, and the cooperation of the building contractor hired to create the new foundation.

Case Study Questions:
