PROJECT BRIEF
Project Name: “ Gastronomic Centre in Urla”
Project Description
Urla is a town situated between Izmir and Çeşme. It is composed of two major areas entitled Urla Seaside (Urla Sahil) and Urla Center (Urla Merkez). In addition to urban settlements, Urla Sahil has a beach, but its well known characteristics are restaurants, which are placed side by side along the harbor where yachts and fishing boats anchor.
Ural Merkez has a bazar consisting of a series of small shops around a square called ‘Arasta’ where one can find cafes and restaurants as well as green groceries, a pet shop, a watch repairer, butchers and so on.
With this authentic setting and many old, stone houses built in the last century, Urla is getting more and more attraction especially by those who wish to have a decent and relaxed retirement. Nevertheless, production of olive, oil olive and wine begins to give a new identify to Urla. With its Artichoke Festival last year, and with its organic, natural and ecological agriculture, Urla may turn into a new touristic center in the region.
Therefore, considering its vast potential, we would like you to design a Gastronomic Center, which will address these developments and open a new perspective for the development of Urla.

The new design will include the following spaces in addition to those you find essential for your own project. Please note, you are free to make suggestions as long as they are consistent with general design concepts that you develop
Entrance, reception, admin and other offices, meeting, workshop and presentation areas, storage, kitchen, serving and dining areas, services, etc…

Goals of the project
• The main objective of the analysis and evaluation of space, material, physical and technical factors, social needs, sustainability and the development of critical thinking.
• To develop knowledge, skills and vision of students for advanced interior designs. It concentres on the current issues of design as well as the present and future aspirations of the design profession. It provides an opportunity to take students to a higher level, developing knowledge, experiment, approaches and skills relevant to the industry.
• To develop explores core interior design strategies, provides a structure with which students are encouraged to develop an individual design identity and a research pathway.
• To enable students to design interiors by dealing aspects such as lighting, acoustics and temperature, comfort zone and sustainability.

Learning Objectives

1. Students will be able to present an understanding of design processes which incorporate an effective skill of space analysis, a social survey and determinative design factors
2. Students will be able to analyse the technological, cultural and economic factors affecting interior designs in any given urban and domestic environment
3. Students will be able to prepare a substantial research document
4. Students will be able to discuss design as an autonomous discipline in accordance and relation to other design fields.
5. Students will be able to display the economic, political and philosophical influences on interior design processes.
6. Students will be able to demonstrate problem identifying, describing, solving and decision-making skills through a given design project
7. Students will be able to propose alternative, creative and/or contradictive design solutions with proper survey, research, conceptual ideas and final presentations
8. Students will be able to present technical design solutions for lighting, acoustics, sound and heating systems.
9. Students will be able to Communicate verbally and orally to discuss their personal approach to design
