Activity Organizational Behavior MGTC446 Business Research Project The Situation:
Work with your team to select a publicly-held company (i.e., they trade stock) which interests you, for example, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Yum! Brands, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, General Motors, etc. The firm should also be international in its operation. Research that company and prepare a report summarizing your research.
Your Task:
1. You are to write a paper. This paper must:
a. Follow APA format
b. No need to include an abstract
c. Be 7-9 pages long, not including your title page and reference pages
2. Create a Narrated PowerPoint. This PowerPoint must:
a. Be 5-7 minutes long
b. Include a title, outline, conclusion, and references slides
c. Although all team members must share in the responsibility of creating the PowerPoint only one group member needs to finalize and narrate.
To Begin:
1. Select your team (three-four persons each) and Company (McDonald Fast foods)
2. Assign research the majority of your sources should be scholarly resources from the BU Library.
3. Each member should bring drafts of their parts of the paper to the team for review and critique by other team members.
4. Control the structure of your work assignments should include someone to ensure that the paper has logical transitions and that a last minute spell check is completed.
Process Stages for the Assignment:
1. You will need to spend time to work together on your research during the week in the Group area, but it is a good idea to exchange emails and/or phone numbers.
2. Be sure to cover the eight sections described on the Evaluation Form (below).
3. Be prepared to present the results of your research within the 5-7 minute timeframe during week six of the MGTC 446 course.
4. Your team’s final paper is also due week six of the MGTC446 course.
5. All team members will receive the same grade for this assignment — so, no “social loafing!”

1. History/Background of the Firm:POINTS (of 10) Describe the founding of the organization. Did any mergers or acquisitions affect the firm during its history? Were there any regulatory or other changes that affected the firm’s development?
2. Nature of the Industry (SWOT analysis): POINTS (of 10) How many competitors are there in this industry? Does the firm face a few competitors or many smaller ones? What does it take for a firm to be successful in this industry? Is the pace of change within the industry rapid of slow? How many factors affect a customer’s decision to buy or use the product or service?
3. Description of Corporate Strategy: POINTS (of 10) Does the company make many products or services, or only a few? Is the industry or market growing — if so, how does the firm take advantage of that? If the market is shrinking, how is the firm protecting itself? What is the company doing to deal with its competitors?
4. Description of the Firm’s Social Responsibility Activities POINTS (of 10) What does the company do to meet the needs of its stakeholders? Who are the primary stakeholders of this organization? What charities or issues does this firm support? Which stakeholders should the company be most concerned about? What social responsibility issues does the firm face regarding its international activities?
5. Description of the Firm’s International Activities POINTS (of 10) Which international markets is the company active in? Does the firm face international competitors, and if so, from where? Does the firm use international suppliers? What percentage of annual sales comes from international venues?
6. Organizational Structure and Relevance to Competition/Strategy POINTS (of 10) What is the primary organizational form for this firm: functional, divisional, geographical, matrix? Are there network relationships with other companies? How does the firm use its resources to meet its key strategic and competitive challenges?
7. Issues the Firm Faces RE: DiversityPOINTS (of 10)

What diversity issues does this organization face? Is diversity an issue re: employee recruitment and retention? If so, how does the firm cope with these problems? Is diversity an issue re: customer needs? If so, how does the firm cope? Are there diversity pressures form the external environment that the firm needs to be aware of and respond to?
8. Assessment of Group Performance and Contributions to
Task Completion POINTS (of 10) What stages of group development did your group pass through? What were your group’s strengths and weaknesses? What would have enabled your group to perform more successfully? Which tasks and/or maintenance roles did each group member demonstrate?
