Hindrances of democratization in Iraq

Iraq has undergone a significant democracy transition after the accomplishment of the American invasion and eradication Saddam’s regime. When the state with no previous infrastructure of democracy as Iraq is pushing into force by democratizing, America and its allies need to build a nation-state with an effective system in order to protect from leading Iraq to Anarchy. However, the beginning of the obstacles is from its creation. At the end of Ottoman Empire, Iraq was constituted and imposed by the ways of United Kingdom. The land which used to divide into three groups were force together without any cooperation. Consequently, there’s no general agreement over the state and its structure among different nation of people. The starting point of turmoils throughout the state is the administration of inefficient principle of democracy. People, as a vulnerable roots of the power, were not understand the concept in practice since they were under the rule of authoritarian policy for long. The implementation of democratization is to set up internal organizations e.g. CPA, IGC , TNA for transferring the power to the government and drafting the permanent constitution under American pointer. By the way, it seemed hard as the government didn’t contributed to construct the nation state but put a dissension on each parties, following their ethnicities. The out come are weakness of a civil society, right of citizens is limits and people are under the Great Depression. Plus,The America democratized the polity precipitately. It has inflicted to the amelioration of modern Iraqi state. Even-though Iraq itself has a constitution, parliament, prime minister and cabinet. Nevertheless, Iraq still lacks desirable circumstances of politic, economic conditions, stability and security in both domestic and international level. It was long gone from peace which is considered as a tool to run the country competently.

Referring to The American actions since the removal of Saddam. The United States has imposed its own political structure on Iraq by democratizing. This led Iraq to ‘failed state’ country -having no real sovereignty. In addition of ‘failed state’ which is resulted from the intervention of the U.S., sparked the crack of war on terror. At the same time, creating groups of terrorists and domestic issues which eventually became the major obstacle to developing the country. For instance, Al-Qaeda, old Baath’s Party group, Sunni insurgent group, Shia group and the Kurd. The armed opposition group against America and its allies, using conventional force covertly for making barriers on national building’s and democratization’s prosperity. Meanwhile, the antagonistic groups at the indigenous level were resisted on each other due to the differences of policy and purpose.

All of these affected Iraq for many years. It has it on the terrible state where horrors and violence prevailed. When security forces of Iraq are not ready to move on, the violence that generally occurred brings the Iraqi government unstable. Also, causing the vacuum in term of American policy for initiating new modern era has split up the consolidation of the social contract. All American government has done on Iraq is only put up composite democracy’s construction not the real one.
