Principles, Problems and Trends
According to the Scottish Executive’s Consultation, “One of the main internal tasks of any prison administration is to provide a safe and secure environment for all prisoners,” (Coyle, 2002). Now, assume that you are the warden of a medium-sized security state prison of 1000 inmates. Your associate warden for programs has proposed that the unit management model should be implemented in your prison.
Would you accept the proposal for adopting the unit management model in your prison? Justify your response with rationale.
What are the strengths and weaknesses associated with the unit management model? Also, what are the effects of the unit management model on the security of the prison?
Do you agree with The Scottish Executive’s Consultation’s statement? Justify your answer with appropriate reasons and examples.
What steps you would undertake to create and oversee the continuation of the prison that has a positive record for safe and secure operations?
The prison you are in charge of as a warden has many violent and dangerous people in one small location. Keeping all these dangerous people under one roof leads to interpersonal, violent or collective inmate activities. What changes should be made in order to counter these activities and the increasing problems of gang formation in prisons?
How can programs help to reduce violence in prisons?
What steps can be taken to combat the problems of correctional facilities in future?
