The Premier League, Discrimination and Player’s Earning

This course is economics of sports. i need write a capstone for this course. i already choose topic and collect all data, also run the result by myself. Here is the introduction for this paper: The English Premier League is one of the most developed professional leagues worldwide. Functioning as a corporation with 20 clubs each season, it profits from selling its naming right to Barclay (currently) and to sell its TV relay rights. Within the league, a well-developed economic sector can be observed. The transferring of players between clubs within the English league and leagues outside of England generates tremendous revenue each year. After its commercial and competitive success, the English Premier League also becomes known as one of the most diverse professional sports league. In the year 2012, 244 players from 51 nations and all continents compete in the league together. Like other corporations, the Premier League faces accusation of unfair treatment towards players of color. Some argue that many of the most well-known football celebrities in the league come from third-world countries, which counters the discrimination theory.  Didier Drogba, one of the most legendary strikers in the history of the Premier League, comes from Ivory Coast. However, to what extend do elite players like Drogba and their annual income reflect the reality? In other words, does racial discrimination exist in the English Premier League? It might be difficult to survey on whether individuals hold prejudice against minority players, but the institutional discrimination could be quantified through numbers. One of the most direct way to examine this question will be to look at the player’s income and their race to see if there’s any correlation. This study aims to first review the researches conducted previously and compare a few economic models used by scholars to search for the most compatible ones to borrow from. Secondly, a data will be gathered and computed into the chosen equation in order for us to establish a broader model for comparison. With the information collected above, we will present a graph that visualize the results. Lastly, a conclusion will be made as for whether minority players are treated differently in this aspect of the Premier League.
