Rubric for Political Action Letter
This is an official business letter from you to a politician of your choice (any state). You must choose a marginalized population that you feel for and gave you reason to write this letter of advocacy that concerns your support or outrage about their treatment in their state.
Compose a letter to a government individual of your choice outlining your concerns and what you would like that government person to do (vote yes or no for some up-coming supporting legislation) or lobby for a new policy concerning this population in need.
Since this is a business letter, make sure that the letter is left justified and is Times Roman Numeral with a 12 font. Please make sure that the politician’s name and address is in block format and you address the person of interest as Honorable …….
DUE DATE: March 1, 2017

1.5 points…..Identify a key politician (name and address) who you feel can champion your cause. What office do they hold? Why is this politician a good choice for this population?
2 points ….1st paragraph: Introduce your topic of interest and clearly communicate your position. Make sure you ID your population providing statistics locally in that state, and nationally in the U.S. (make sure you reference sources)
2 points…..2nd paragraph: identify the concerning health issues with this population? Provide supporting data from peer reviewed journals.
2 points 3rd paragraph: as a nursing advocate for this population, explain what is your specific main concern that you feel our health policies should address with this population that is presently lacking?
7.5 points……TOTAL
Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and overall neatness matters in this grade!
This political action letter represents 10% of your final grade and will be factored into your overall GPA after you have achieved a 76% average grade in your two course exams.

Suggested Marginalized Groups: Elderly, Mentally Ill, Alzheimer Patients, Disabled Vets, Domestic Violence Individuals, Children, Pregnant Teens, Illegal Immigrants, Prostitutes, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender, etc.
