: Playing together: inclusive approaches to early childhood play

Topic: Playing together: inclusive approaches to early childhood play

Order Description
QUESTIONS

1. Consider social justice in and through play. Reflecting on this lecture and the chapter from Nind et al (2014), unpack your understanding of social justice in and through play and explore what this means for you in your everyday practice as a teacher, as well as in your ongoing advocacy for children.

2. Think about the dolls/ action figures/ other toys that you played with throughout your childhood:
– what groups of people in society were represented through these toys? What does this imply about the groups of people that were not represented through these toys
– what impact would this have on the self-esteem of children who were not represented through popular toys?
– do you believe that you were represented through these toys? Reflect on whether this impacted upon your perspective of yourself, and of others.
