Pull out your pathology books to review the coagulation cycle.

Please compare and contrast the various pharmacological interventions for bleeding disorders.

1.) What is the difference between anticoagulent drugs and thrombolytic drugs – provide an example of each. How are they prescribed?

2.) Compare and contrast heparin and coumadin – i.e. – why are they used, how are they administered and what are the antagonists.

3.) What lab tests monitor the blood levels?

4.) What is the indication for use of each?

5.) Mention any experiences you may have had with the various drugs – there are many interactions (including food) that may occur with these substances – what are they?
