On this lesson, I have based my perspective on the positive and negative impacts of ecotourism on the peoples of the Northern Community. On the positive perspective, ecotourism has been beneficial to the people in that it has enabled them survive by providing employment opportunities for the people as a means of living. As can be seen from the interview, the existence of the lodge has facilitated political empowerment of the locals. For example, they were able to get loans and purchase part of the lodge. Such economic empowerment leads to political empowerment. Additionally, ecotourism enables these people promote their culture in a positive way, an act that gives them political relevance. On the other hand, ecotourism pens the land of the Bathurst Inlet community to their political rivals, who may take the chance to understand their political weaknesses and continue to overshadow them in political circles. Further, by preserving their culture, this denies a Bathurst Community member the opportunity to rise above indigenous thinking, to a position where they can act as a political uniting figure in the larger country.
Lesson 10.2:
I have classified Brazil Eco Adventure Tours as a tour wholesaler. This is because, s record on its website, it is the overall tour agency for adventure tours in Brazil, through which other ecological tour guides and tour operators have to pass through. For a tour guide to tour the Atlantic Rainforests, they have to be approved by the EMBRATUR.
Brazil Eco Adventure Tours and Green Tracks are the most appealing to me. Both websites are organized in a presentable manner, providing contacts, just in case of clarity purposes. They have explained almost all queries one would ask, and sub-divided the information into easily readable units. They have explained their ownership, clarifying the issue of credibility and security. Besides, their photos appear realer. I would get into business with them.
