Topic: PERCEPTIONS OF AFRICA AS AN IMPOVERISHED CONTINENT: AS TOLD BY THE WESTERN MEDIA, EXPLODING THE MYTHS
Order Description
should be a thematic qualitative dissertation, so work should come from the original work of authors of the literature studied! It should summarise and compile your critical opinions, from the literature review of my topic.
Like many Africans and people of African ancestry, I am frustrated with the way Africa is presented in western forms of media. Africans, as presented by western media, are always either starving, dying or caught up in never ending civil wars. But, most Africans do not ful fill these stereotypes and neither do most African countries. I am of African- Caribbean descent and have been fortunate enough to have travelled to various African nations as well as the Caribbean. The Africa that I have grown to love and call my home, is beautiful; bursting with cultural diversity and it has a very promising future. I get very disappointed when these things that I love about Africa are deliberately omitted by western media. They often give an unbalanced presentation of the continent; a lot of emphasis is placed on the negative side of Africa, so using this as impetus for me to dig deeper into this subject, I will go on a mission to see what people in the west, think about Africa based on what they see in newspapers and on their television screens. I will also aim to dispel these myths that plague the imagery, drawing upon various literature sources.
In this dissertation, there has to be three questions with similar themes running throughout.
I would like one chapter to be about the relationship between charity aid and poverty/conflict.
The second to be about the subjugation of Africa of post colonialism.
The third chapter should draw upon how the news media has treated the economics of Africa.
If possible, *UWE Harvard referencing should be used instead of *Harvard.
