Research Papers (10 points each; 20 points in total)
You will write two 2-3 page double-spaced (1” margins, 12-pt Times New Roman font) papers on social identities and implications for counseling. One on one of your socially privileged identities, and the other on one of your socially oppressed identities. You may choose the order of papers, but you must eventually do both. Use the questions below to guide your paper.
Oppressed Identity: How may one of your oppressed identities impact your work as a counselor? How may oppression of this identity look like? What are applied examples in counseling and/or psychology? How may experiences of oppression be different for the counselor vs. the client?
Privileged Identity: How may one of your privileged identities impact your work as a counselor? What are examples of privilege of this identity? What are applied examples in counseling and/or psychology? How may experiences of privilege be different for the counselor vs. the client?
