Nursing considerations
Phuong This a 22year old female student has been admitted to the ward post ingestion of an unknown quantity of her father’s “Panadol Osteo” tablets. Phuong Thi was withdrawn and tearful on admission stating she had taken the tablets for a “headache that would not go away”.
Phuong Thi is from a Vietnamese background, born in Australia. She was brought in to hospital by a concerned friend who advised the admitting doctor treating Phuong Thi, that Phuong Thi had been stressed due to a recent relationship breakdown, poor grades at university and was working long hours at her parents’ restaurant.
The home team have come to review Phuong Thi. The home team have ordered blood test to check for paracetamol blood level 6 hours after ingestion of the Panadol Osteo, commence an Intravenous Therapy of Normal Saline over 8 hours (1000/8). They have discussed the case with the psychiatric team who will review Phuong Thi.
