Paper 2
New Personality Self-Portrait Paper (3-4 pages):
a. Summarize the diagnostic issues and basic ideas that you see as clinically relevant from:
Introduction: The Newest Personality System
Chapter 1, Who Am I? Understanding Individual Differences
and Chapter 2, Your Unique Life Pattern.
b. Complete the Personality Self-Portrait Inventory in Chapter 3 and identify your personality
style(s) according to the model. Choose the chapter(s) that corresponds to your assessed
style(s), (e.g. Conscientious Style in Chapter 4, etc.), and write a summary of the traits of your
style and give personal examples of where you see this style applies to yourself, and where it
doesnt. You may discover that more than one style really contribute evenly to a whole picture of
you, so explain that. Or your score may indicate one style is where you tested predominantly but
your view of yourself is really rooted in another style. Discuss this and the possible meaning.
Reflection is key here. Offer personal reflections of how this information may be helpful to you
as a therapist. Explore the meaning for you personally and clinically. Did you learn anything new
about yourself? Anything that may come up as a countertransference issue? Did you discover
possible areas for improvement or confirm areas you know you struggle with? Did the test get it
totally wrong? How do you think this test would be helpful to your clients? How might it be
problematic?
