HISTORY

explore one of the following topics: post-war prosperity; the cold war; McCarthyism/red scare; Civil Rights Movement; American foreign policy/geo-political conflict; party politics; popular culture; women’s movement; sexual revolution; roles of men and women; ethnic/religious identity issues; social unrest. Once students have identified with a group topic, each will do research on a narrower topic related to the larger topic in order to both write your individual papers (no group papers) and in order that every student briefly presents some unique material related to the larger topic. Each student’s paper should reflect their own work, but the larger group presentation is certainly a collaborative effort. Your papers should be 500-750 words and respond to the following questions:

Describe the relationship of your topic to the larger topic at hand.

How was your topic a product of particular factors emergent in the United States following World War II and the commencement of the Cold War?

How were circumstances related to your topic resolved or did they remain unresolved by the close of the 1950s?

Do you believe that historical inquiry on your particular topic remains relevant in the present? How so?

Please do not forget to utilize at least one primary source in your response.
