During the seventeenth century, the two main national styles of music were the italian and french. in our course, the former is represented by Monteverdi and Cavalli, and the latter by Lully. German and English composers tended to draw on both styles in their compositions, though not always equally. Comment on how this Italian-French mixture manifests itself in Biber’s Rosary partitas and Purcell’s “the fairy queen”.
