Write a thesis early on that gives an overall evaluation of the argument. Does it work? Where and Why? Where does it fail? Why? Look to the body of the essay and provide these answers there.
Then make sure that each paragraph proves the evaluation by showing textual evidence that supports, which they are doing a good job of, IF they had a more clear thesis to support.
