Mentoring in the Academy : Research has consistently shown the importance of mentoring in securing employment, advancing in one’s career, and increased pay. However, the literature in this area has traditionally ignored the needs and concerns of people of color, particularly, those members of the academy. Hence, my research paper will review the extent literature, address pertinent gaps in this area, and make recommendations regarding the use and implementation of mentoring programs for females at major research universities.
