Instruction: PAPER STRUCTURE• I want an amazing intro paragraph that sets you apart from the other 324 papers I will be grading.
• Your intro must contain a one sentence thesis in Bold. This will show me what you think you are proving through the paper. A good thesis will *focus* its claim. (Don’t try to bite off too much with your thesis, and 8 words is nearly always better than 20).
• In the body, I want three arguments proving your thesis and I want you to italicize the central one sentence claim that you think directly proves your thesis.
• Your concluding paragraph should sum up your argument in a stout, clarifying way.
• At least 3 quotes from the reading(s) that give fuel to your arguments, and show your engagement with the text at hand. (Use quotes to release, not conclude your claims.)
• A good structure might look like this: Page 1 – Intro including thesis, Page 2-3 – First proof, Page 4-5 – Second Proof, Page 6-7 – Third proof, Page 8 – Conclusion.
• See Sartre’s – “Existentialism is a Humanism” for an example of a fantastic paper of this sort.
Example of structure played out through the Paper:
Thesis: Joe killed Harry
Argument 1: Joe always hated Harry
Argument 2: The murder weapon was found at Joe’s house
Argument 3: Joe was seen leaving the scene of the crime.
Concluding paragraph summarizing why you think Joe killed harry
• On citations, formatting, etc – I do not care. I am grading you exclusively on content.
