Objective: A reflective journal is a piece of writing that allows students to record thoughts and insights about their own learning experience. This journal encourages students to review and consolidate learning, evaluate performance, and plan future learning based on past learning experience. Students become capable of taking charge of their own learning, and they eventually develop into independent lifelong learners.

The journal is intended to be free writing and reflective. The content of the journal should detail what you have accomplished, observed, and learned at your Internship during the specified time period in syllabus. Write about how your experiences fit the curriculum and are helping you prepare for a career in management. Reflect on what you have done well, what frustrates you, your challenges and what you are learning in general. Sample journal topics could include, but are not limited to, discussions such as;
Describe the work atmosphere at your internship site. How are decisions made? Is it a cooperative or competitive atmosphere? Explain your response.
Describe what you did and what you observed at your internship site this week. What was the best thing that happened to you this week. How did it make you feel? What did you learn about yourself this week? Did you work on your goals?
What were your biggest challenges this week? What conversation would you like to have with your boss/supervisor, but have not had? How would you evaluate your communication skills — strengths or weaknesses? How would you affect change? How would you evaluate your supervisor’s communication skills — what are their strengths or weaknesses when it comes to communications.
What decisions/progress have you made regarding interviewing individuals (regarding their career paths) at your internship or at other organizations that interest you? What is your biggest challenge with this assignment? What questions do you think would provide interesting insight from these individuals? What were the ‘take-aways’ from the interviews that impacted you the most and why did those resonate with you? What questions do you wish you had asked or who else would you have liked to interview but elected not to or did not have the opportunity to do so?
Look back on your goals you set at the beginning of the semester and assess your progress. If you had the chance to re-do your goals, how would you change them or which new ones would you include and why? What were the most effective learning experiences that you had, either in class or at internship?
