The Loss of Puerto Rican Identity

The Loss of Puerto Rican Identity

This paper will focus on following aspects of identity in regards to Americans living on the actual island of Puerto Rico in comparison to Americans of Puerto Rican descent residing in the actual United States of America:

• The Tainos and the more often than not, forgotten origins
• Voting laws separating local islanders versus United States residents
• Language, the dominance of a preferred dialect from region to region
• The availability of equal opportunities to succeed
• Majority views of Statehood versus continued commonwealth
