The budget analysis exercise gives students the opportunity to examine
one local jurisdiction’s budget in depth and critique it based on the
expertise developed through the course. The assignment may be accomplished
individually, or through teams of not more than three members.
Each team will select a proposed budget from a city or county in the
university’s service region. Teams will select a jurisdiction’s budget for
analysis in class to preclude overlap. Teams are responsible for accessing
the budget document via the jurisdiction’s website. If the jurisdiction
you initially identified does not make its complete budget available
on the Internet, identify an alternative jurisdiction’s budget for review.
Advise the instructor as soon as possible to ensure no overlap with other
teams. Each team should complete and submit a copy of the Local Government
Budget Review Analysis Assignment Sheets.
