Please only answer 1 & 6. I don’t think you will be able to answer the others unless you attended the school board meeting that I did. I just need help understanding the role that everyone plays that are the members of the board at the school district board meeting. =) Later tomorrow I will be adding the agenda/board meeting notes that I attended to get a better aspect on what this assignment is about.
The point of this assignment is to view the distinct role of elected officials, public administrators and other policy “actors” during the policy making process. You are required to attend a school district board meeting that is of a local government governing body during the month. After attending and carefully observing the local government officials and administrators in action, the student will write an analysis and critique of the meeting with the following information:
1. Overview government agency, governing body and community served (this should be no more than one page);
2. **Description of one agenda item addressing a public policy initiative that involved input/communication from members of the public and deliberation from the governing body (note: items on the “consent” calendar, resolutions or special presentations honoring an individual or association do not count as policy items);
3. Analysis of the role of one or more public administrators (non-elected “staff”) in relation to the elected officials in influencing the outcome of the agenda item presented in #2;
4. Analysis of one more members of the public or organized groups in relation to influencing the outcome of the agenda item presented in #2;
5. Analysis of the level of respect you believe members of the public were given by the elected officials during the proceedings; and
6. Critical review of the meeting’s representation of representative democracy in local government
