Lens Essay/ Decision-making analysis

Lens Essay/ Decision-making analysis

This is a Business Ethics essay and the essay is in 2 parts. Please write the essay in 2 parts as part A consists no more than 2 pages, and part B consists no more than 4 pages.

In Part a, you will be assigned an ethical dilemma and two ethical decision-making frameworks. Your job is to start with the rational decision-making model we discussed in class, integrate the concepts, theories and components of the two ethical frameworks, then apply the frameworks to the assigned dilemma and reason through the dilemma within the limits of each model.

In Part b of the assignment you will use your decision-making skills developed in class to reach your own personal resolution of the dilemma. Your personal resolution may or may not include your analysis from Part a, but you must explain why you are rejecting or incorporating that analysis into your own decision-making, and explain clearly the analysis of your resolution.

Part A: Lens Paper

One step of developing the moral skill to make well-reasoned decisions is practice making those decisions. In this assignment you will use the elements of the rational decision-making model and two ethical frameworks we have discussed to reason through a decision. As we know, neither framework may give you an answer that seems right to you, but incorporating the features of them into your decision-making analysis, if you ultimately were to choose another direction, is vital to principled decision-making. Thinking clearly and methodically through the decision-making process is another step in developing moral skill. After all, how useful is knowing the ethical frameworks if you cannot apply them logically?

You will receive an assigned ethical dilemma and two frameworks. You must reason through the dilemma using the rational decision-making model we discussed in class (and it is in your Jennings text) and your assigned frameworks. In your paper, you will describe your analysis that is in keeping with each framework and provide support for your analysis. It does not matter at this stage whether you personally would follow either course of action; what is important is that you demonstrate your understanding of the concepts and principles of each framework and can apply them correctly. You may use your lecture and discussion and workshop notes and the text for this assignment; however, use of any other material is prohibited and will be considered academic misconduct. While SMG encourages collaboration, each student is responsible for submitting their own, original work.

Part B: Decision-Making Analysis

In this part of the assignment you will build upon your analysis in Part A. After reasoning through the two assigned frameworks, you now must make your own decision about how to resolve your assigned ethical dilemma. You may decide that one or both of the analyses in Part A would be helpful to your own decision-making; or, you may decide that neither of the analyses from Part A fit with your values and reject both in favor of another analysis. In your paper, you will reason through your decision using the rational decision-making model and whatever ethical frameworks assist you in making a well-reasoned decision. Included in your analysis must be your reasoning as to why you rejected or accepted any part of your analyses in Part A, and why you included any new analysis in your decision-making. You may use your lecture and discussion and workshop notes and the text for this assignment; however, use of any other material is prohibited and will be considered academic misconduct. While SMG encourages collaboration, each student is responsible for submitting their own, original work.
