Legalizing Discrimination in Europe. By the Editorial Board. The New York Times.

A brief description and summary of the article, answering questions
such as: what was the author’s thesis? What issues is the author highlighting? What
were the author’s conclusions? It is a common mistake for students to describe what
the “author is talking about” instead of summarizing the article. A summary will
make reference to specific points of data and the evidence supporting the author’s
claims 3) An analysis of the article: What was the bias of the author? Was the article
well-balanced or did it favor a certain side? Who was the audience of the article? Is
the article accurate? (**note that to answer this question it may be helpful to search
for other articles on the same topic). 4) A synthesis of how the article relates to
broader global issues (eg. economics, globalization, demographics, health and
welfare, wealth and poverty, technology and the environment, status of women or
minorities etc.) This synthesis should relate the article to specific class readings or
discussions. Try to draw broader parallels between regions, or make comparisons to
the situation in the United States. This synthesis is central to the goal of the
assignment and should not be neglected.
