This module examined the very prevalent and serious issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. Through the readings and case briefs, we have seen the legal standards to which law enforcement managers must adhere. The penalty for non-compliance can be severe.
1. Discuss how sexual harassment has been a most troublesome issue in the workplace. Although quid pro quo is often the most blatant, it is the hostile work environment that has been a frequent subject of litigation. In the law enforcement profession, a certain amount of professional kidding has often been regarded as a good tension-reliever. However, there are lines that should not be crossed, such as when comments or joking takes on a racial, sexual, or hurtful tenor.
2, Discuss your views on the benefits and risks of office humor, comparing the bonding and tension-relief versus the creation of a hostile work environment.
