The book you need to read is ” From Inquiry to Academic Writing” p373-p382. And also you need to read the another article called “Mother Tongue” from

Amy Tan.
Consider Gloria Anzaldua’s exploration of language in “How to Tame a Wild Tongue.” Similarly, Amy Tan, author of “Mother Tongue,” coined the word

“Englishes” to describe the different forms of language she uses throughout her day. Why does Anzaldua use different kinds of language in her life?

Or more importantly, why do you? Consider the “literacies” we explored in Essay One. Now consider the different Englishes, literacies, or mixed

languages you use based on your audience or social situation. Why do Anzaldua and Tan do it? Why do you do it? The answer to this question should

ultimately be your thesis statement for Essay Two.

This is a categorization essay, where you must arrange the different languages or language forms that you use in different aspects of your life. Each

supporting paragraph should explore a different form of communication. You should develop each supporting paragraph by providing quoted examples of

the different kinds of language that you might use depending on the social situation, personal experiences, descriptions, and discussion. You should

also borrow quotes from Anzaldua’s essay as necessary. You should also provide an engaging introductory paragraph which effectively references

Anzuldua’s text as a connection between the world and your essay. Your concluding paragraph should reflect on your thesis and main idea.

Other requirements: approximately 3-5 pages in length, appropriately formatted, fully-developed paragraphs with an interesting title. Your essay

should also include correct MLA in-text citations and a works cited page.
