10. The requirements for the assessment

Using the same organisation as in your first assignment, write a report for the Human Resources department outlining what you consider to be the best way to manage cultural challenges posed in one of the following areas:

Cross-cultural negotiation
Management of multi-cultural workgroups
International assignments

Your report should explain how your recommendations could be effectively incorporated into the organisation’s cultural training programmes. 1500 words+/-10%
11. Assessment criteria

This assessment seeks to assess the following:

– Your ability to locate and engage with academic materials
– Your ability to present a critical account of academic literature
– Your ability to relate academic materials to lecture content
– Your ability to apply content to real organisations

0 – 20%: Students will fail this assignment if they do not attempt to answer the question in clear English.

20-29%: An attempt is made to answer the question, but the work does not refer explicitly to concepts or theoretical frameworks discussed on this module.

30-39%: To achieve a mark in this band, students must have followed the instructions in the assignment brief, but the work may contain substantial errors and/or present a poor level of written English. Concepts and theoretical frameworks from this module are mentioned, but there is little evidence that they have been understood.

40-49%: To achieve a pass mark for this assignment students are required to produce a report which properly address the issues outlined in the assignment brief. Quotations should be attributed clearly using the Harvard referencing format. Marks will be lost for errors of attribution, poor language or incoherence.

50-59%: Higher marks will be awarded for well-structured work which demonstrates a clear understanding (through detailed analysis) of the various matters covered by the cultural briefing.

60-69%: Higher marks will be awarded for logical consistency, elegant argumentation and a high standard of presentation.

70+: Higher marks will be awarded for work which makes exceptionally well justified recommendations with reference to readings and cases studied on this module. At this level, a critically reflective perspective should be evident, for example, by showing how best practice is based on learning from some of the experiences of companies discussed in this module.

85+: Marks in this bracket will be awarded for outstanding quality of presentation and content.
12. Special instructions

Your submission should be written in a report format (1500 words).

– Use the same organisation as in paper 001.

– Your report must refer to a number of the theories and cases discussed on this module. References should be given to some of the materials presented in the module outline.
Endnote
Careful referencing of sources is vital when making use of the work of others. You are expected to employ the referencing conventions recommended in the Course. These conventions apply to information taken from internet sources, as well as books, journals and lectures. If you are unsure of the way to reference properly, seek advice from a member of staff before you submit the assessment. These are some of the points you should check before submitting your work:

• are all direct quotations, from both primary and secondary sources, suitably acknowledged (placed in quotation marks or indented)?
• have you provided full details of the source of the quotation, according to the referencing convention used in the Course?
• have you acknowledged the source of ideas not your own, even if you are not quoting directly from the source?
• have you avoided close paraphrase from sources? (Check that you are not presenting other people’s words or phrasing as if they are your own.)
• if you have worked closely with others in preparing for this assessment, is the material you are presenting sufficiently your own?
