Many things happened which expanded knowledge through out the known world during the period Enlightenment. With trade opening up through the New and Old World; it made it easer for many of these ideas to spread. With the Chinese printing press becoming more common; it was harder to control what information would be control or allowed to the common public. Which, in turn, help lead the way for the Religious Reformation through out Europe (Pollard, 519). This was the pinnacle moment in history not just for religion but for science. With many questioning the Church/monarchy and it’s control of the people; they started to questions what “control” God had over nature. This lead the Scientific Revolution and the creation of the scientific method. During this time many were able to explore and share their ideas with much less fear of being punished by the church. There were many like Sir Issac Newton who scientific efforts weren’t meant to question the existence of God; it was more directed towards the simplicity of understanding how things worked or happen within the nature world.

Also during this period of Enlightenment exploration for scientific needs not just financial had become more common. With the many voyages of Capt. James Cook many new lands, like Australia, were discovered along with many new plants and animal species. This was also the time were not just plants and animals were broken down into groups; so were humans. With the discovery of new lands we realized we looked and was shaped very different based on where we were from in the world. The term “race” in regards to humans was coined during this time frame by Frenchman François Bernier (Pollard, 516).

The period of Enlightenment was named rightfully so; this was a time in history where people not only had questions about the world, science and religion they also sought out the answer these questions. Which lead to a great thirst to knowledge and growth throughout the know world.
