International Political Economy

‘Cancelllation of developing countries’ debt would solve the poverty problem’. Analyse with reference to debates on development and ‘dependency’ in the Global South.

My major is International Relations. This essay is from a class called international political economy. if you are not familiar with it i would go search information on it. its just basically how the economy like the international institutions and the global market affects the world in whatever ways. ( Strange, Susan ‘International Economics and International Relations. A Case of Mutual Neglect’, International Affairs, vol. 46, no. 2 (April), pp. 304-315)

The essay has to be 3.500 words but 3.300 EXACTLY is ok.

In the essay I would choose a less developed country like NIGERIA as a reference and focus on it otherwise it will be too broad.

Then i would talk about the Development Theories and how they have been applied to less developed countries like Nigeria ad how they have failed for example because of implementing democracy in a country with corruption and poverty. like modernisation theory. I would also look at Rostow’s Stages of Economic Growth model.

Then look at Dependency Theory and how debt create dependency from the global north to the global south.

In the conclusion say that debt of developing countries don’t solve the poverty problem but create even more and create dependency as well as a system of neo-colonialism meaning that the global north can control the south not as a colony in practice as in the past but through other means and so on.

Use Chicago (footnotes and bibliography in alphabetical order)
The essay obviously needs to have a thesis statement and a point as I said in the conclusion thats our point however it has to counter argue with other scholars as well as have evidence of what we are saying in the conclusion
