Interdisciplinary Analysis & Annotated Bibliography

Interdisciplinary Analysis & Annotated Bibliography Project instructions: Scholarly article being used: These are the guidelines that my professor requires: Purpose: Learning Objectives By the end of this project, you will be able to: Analyze three separate disciplines into their component parts Critically analyze academic sources Establish specific perspectives (assumptions, biases) of the academic disciplines you are interested in Identify interdisciplinary solutions as well as the specific type of interdisciplinarity (multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary) Apply constructive, critical communication skills by assessing peer work Audience: Your audience is your instructor. When writing anything to an audience, you should consider who they are, what they know, and what they value. So, consider your audience is values an analysis report that demonstrates knowledge of interdisciplinarity and its terms. In addition, I’m looking for analysis reports that analyze rather than only describes or summarizes. In addition, your audience is going to value clear, concise writing and sources that are academic and integrated seamlessly into the text. The annotated bibliography should be correctly formatted and give both summaries and evaluations in the annotation. Your Assignment: Craft an analytical report, showcasing your analysis of interdisciplinary research, including the identification of key elements of interdisciplinary research (as suggested in Chapter Seven of our textbook, Becoming Interdisciplinary by Tanya Augsburg) and an annotated bibliography with at least six (6) academic sources. The sources must represent at least two different disciplines, and differing points of view on the subject. Assignment Tasks: Step #1 “ Locate a œscholarly article that presents an Interdisciplinary Solution to a problem. It’s strongly suggested that you focus on a problem that exists in one of your disciplines (areas of study). However, you are not required to stay within your fields of study if there is an article or solution that truly motivates you. Please consider that you will be conducting research on key concepts and lead thinkers in these fields, which may help you further your own studies, and your own familiarity with the discipline in question may help you in your project. For examples of œscholarly articles, you can review the articles listed in the Interdisciplinary Project Articles; each article came from a journal which claims to have an Interdisciplinary focus and/or solution. Choose an article that is of interest to you. You will need to read the text closely and create an analytical report presenting your findings. Step #2 “ Identify and analyze the following elements within your chosen article in your final analytical report: the object of study (the central question the article attempts to answer) all disciplines considered by the author/article any key concepts presented in the article any key theories cited in the article and field of origin all research methods used and field of origin any key thinkers cited as experts and their field of expertise all evident key assumptions/worldviews Step #3 “ Identify and address what each discipline (and/or sub-disciplines) added to the outcomes reached by the author. Identify the contributions each discipline makes and points of discipline integration. Discuss whether the right discipline were used and why. If the right disciplines weren’t use, what disciplines would be more appropriate and why? Comment if key disciplines or sub-disciplines were overlooked, and if so, why are they relevant? If additional disciplines are not necessary, justify your stance. Step #4 “ Evaluate the approach of the article and the solution presented for its interdisciplinary & defend your analysis a.) Establish in this section what interdisciplinarity must do / what it is and provide support b.) Discuss whether the approach of the article was disciplinary, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, or cross-disciplinary and provide support. In order to do this look for, first review your response in Step #3. This response will determine the level of interdisciplinarity. Next, review the sources listed at in the article’s bibliography at the end of the article. Determine the variety of the publications based on their disciplinary perspectives. Was the author’s research pulled from multiple disciplines? Did the author use evidence from only one perspective or various perspectives. Comment on whether the author relied on key thinkers from varying fields, or just one. c.) Based on your knowledge and support, define and defend the type of interdisciplinary the article’s solution used. If the article is an interdisciplinary work, then defend it; if not, then explain why not. Perhaps the author used a multidisciplinary or cross-disciplinary approach. Defend your analysis with support from the Augsburg text and other scholarly sources (your own research on the topic). Helpful Tips o Remember that you are writing an analytical report, NOT a simple informative paper. A good analysis stems from a strong understanding of the topic. o An annotated bibliography is not just a works cited or reference page. Make sure to review the annotated bibliography module and the example of the annotation it provides. o Remember the sources must represent at least two different disciplines, and differing points of view on the subject. o This is an academic analysis, so avoid the first person œI use. The peer reviews are an opportunity to get feedback from someone doing the same assignment as you. So, use this opportunity to its fullest!
