Writing Assignment #4 A Friend

Tell me about one of your friends or an important person in your life. Do NOT write about your mother or father or a famous person. Write about a real person whom you encounter in your daily life.

Part 1

Write 15 clauses. For each clause, underline and identify the complete subject and predicate as well as the verb phrase in the predicate and the type of clause: Independent Clause, Adjective Clause or Subordinate Clause.

For example:

1) Although she (subject) is (verb phrase) very busy (predicate)    Subordinate Clause

2) my very best friend (subject) always has (verb phrase) time for me      (predicate) Independent Clause

3) the people who (subject) I meet (verb phrase) everyday (predicate)      Adjective Clause

Part 2

Using the clauses in Part 1 and others, write 15 sentences about your friend or important person. Underline the complete subject and the verb phrase in all the clauses and note the number of clauses at the end of the sentence.

For example:

1) Although she is very busy, my very best friend always has time for      me. (2)

2) She is different from the other people who I meet every day because    she really cares when she asks, How are you? (5)

3) My best friend listens to me, and I listen to her. (2)
