Long term care is a tough and growing issue in the U.S. health care environment. The ACA has several features that address long term care and we will look at those in this assignment.
Description
The way that long term care is approached and financed in the U.S. impacts the whole health system and has impact on the national economy.
You are the CEO of a large, non-profit long term care facility that has 40% Medicaid clients. Your board is interested in how reform legislation passed under the Obama administration will impact your business. They have asked you to prepare a brief of sorts to help them understand the impact of ACA on your organization and on how and when they should perhaps get involved in any lobby activities. Your institution has an associated hospice and has interest in the handling of patients with mental illness, so the board has asked if the ACA has anything to say about these secondary topics as well as your more mainstream long term care business.
Prepare a concise explanation in 500 words or less of the top two issues that you as an administrator see with the ACA legislation regarding long term care and its funding. You may want to preface your remarks with some general information about why changes to Medicaid affect your organization. Select issues you feel are:
Potentially beneficial—Discuss how your institution can capitalize on them
Potentially damaging—Discuss what responses will be required to adapt to them
Worrisome—Discuss why and, and explain what should be done and by whom
You have encouraged your board to focus on stakeholders in dealing with organizational and strategic decisions. Be sure to consider major stakeholders as you prepare your brief. You can use a list format—your board members are very busy and like everything presented to them in a very direct way. Keep your audience in mind as you prepare your brief. Be sure to include both sides of an issue when you can see them.
