With Module 6 this week and the next one, we have completed the assigned material for this course. You had the chance to learn about the impact of immigration in a number of aspects of social life in the U.S., be exposed to information about a very diverse population of immigrants, and exchange views with your classmates. Now that you have a rather complete idea about the material we covered, I would like you to discuss the following points in your journal:

(a) what are your thoughts about immigration and race in the U.S.?
(b) what were some important learning moments and what made them influential?
(c) what did you find challenging and what makes it so? What are some strategies you used to overcome these challenges?
(d) how often do you contemplate whether the things you learn in the class contradict prior knowledge and assumptions or elucidate personal experiences? (HINT: these implicit or explicit cognitive contradictions are the ones which tend to make you feel uncomfortable).

As you respond to these questions, make sure to discuss personal experiences related to migration (immigration, emigration, internal migration, etc.) and/or race and tie them with information we covered in the course so far in a meaningful way. These are the major requirements of the assignment (see the journal description and the rubric in the course syllabus for more details). You can also use external sources, but not exclusively. They should be complementary to info from the course. Keep in mind that it is absolutely necessary to disclose your external sources either with an appropriate citation or at least the name of the author or the source. Your assignments are examined through Turnitin and high levels of similarity with external sources or detection of undisclosed sources can lead to a mild or hefty penalty depending on the extent of them.
