Students are required to write a 3-4 page paper (1050-1400 words) on a Contemporary Issue in Christianity. Christianity today is challenged on many fronts by a variety of moral issues. This assignment does not ask you to argue one side or other of the issue, but simply lay out the basic framework of the discussion. Please follow the guidelines below (cf. Appendix).

NOTE: If you are Catholic, then analyze the issue from a Catholic point of view first; if you are Protestant, then the Protestant viewpoint first. If you have no religious affiliation, then analyze the Catholic viewpoint first.

The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze a contemporary issue in Christianity. This paper is by nature a narrative (or, expository) paper. The paper should contain the following: a) an explanation of the issue; b) a history, if possible, of the issue; and c) significant differences between Catholic and Protestant views on the issue. Do not write on all denominations but focus on one (e.g., Methodist). Students are expected to follow the basic rules of English composition in writing this paper. The paper should include a strong introduction with a clear thesis statement, a body, and a clear conclusion.
