Using a minimum of 15 referred journal articles relevant to the discipline of Organisational Behaviour (OB), in addition to standard textbooks and current news on organisational behaviour, discuss and analyse research findings, controversies and practices pertaining to the three reasons cited below for why managers should care about motivation in organisations. Given your findings and analysis, discuss the implications for motivating millennials (those born between 1980 and 2000 now entering the workforce).
Three reasons why managers should care about motivation in organisations:
1. Managers typically have a variety of opportunities to motivate employees by virtue of how they treat them.
2. In many different ways, motivated individuals tend to be better employees.
3. Jobs can be designed in such a manner as to make them inherently interesting to the individuals who perform them.
Aim of the assignment
The assignment has three main aims. First, to develop an understanding of organisational behaviour research in the area of employee motivation. The second aim is to understand how organisational behaviour is applied in organisational settings and used to address contemporary issues, in particular, attracting, retaining and motivating millennial workers. The third aim is to develop research and analytical skills, as well as critical thinking skills.
