How do acids and bases affect the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution?

acids like HCl release hydrogen ions which increase hydrogen ion concentration. Although bases like NaOh accept hydrogen ions after dissociating using the hydroxide(-OH) and the H+ and -OH come together to form water therefore decreasing H+ concentration.
