Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District

Hiibel v. Judicial District

1.) Why does the Supreme Court conclude that asking a person subjected to a Terry stop for identification is reasonable under the Fourth Amendment?

2.) Did the officer need to know Hiibel’s name? Was this request reasonably related to the purpose of the stop? Argue both sides of the question.

3.)Problems in policing. Write a brief paragraph summarizing the limits of a Terry stop in terms of movement, duration, and investigative techniques. Under what circumstances may a defendant refuse to identify himself or herself to an officer?
