Please write a general literary essay discussing a topic from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The essay has to be based on the following prompt: why must the novel end as it does, that is with Gatsby’s death and Nick’s return to the Mid West? The question should be answered through a close analysis of either Nick or Gatsby or by a more general analysis of the 2 (or more) characters. In short, develop a clear thesis/theory which suggests the main reason(s) for the novel’s conclusion. This should be a formal literary essay, with direct evidence in the form of quotations in MLA format. The essay should contain an introduction, 6-8 arguments (body paragraphs), and a conclusion. However, essay should be about 5 to 6 pages in length. The essay should take the form of either cause and effect, compare and contrast, classification, or example essay. Please see the attachments for more details and a grading rubric.
